Connect OpenWidgets to ChatGPT

OpenWidgets is a public MCP (Model Context Protocol) server. Adding it to ChatGPT as a custom connector gives ChatGPT access to the full widget catalog — calculators, converters, ERP tools, games, and more — right inside your conversation.

OpenAI occasionally renames or relocates these settings. If a label below doesn't match what you see, look for the nearest equivalent (usually still under Settings or a connector/app creation screen) — the underlying steps stay the same.
1

Open ChatGPT settings

In ChatGPT (web or desktop), click your profile picture or name in the bottom-left corner, then select Settings.

2

Turn on Developer mode

Go to the Apps & Connectors (sometimes shown as Connectors) section. Open Advanced settings and enable Developer mode. This is what unlocks adding a connector from a raw server URL instead of only picking from OpenAI's curated list.

3

Create a new app / connector

Back in Apps & Connectors, click Create (this may also read Create app or Add connector depending on your ChatGPT version).

4

Fill in the connector details

Use the following values in the form:

NameOpenWidgets
MCP Server URLhttps://www.openwidgets.in/mcp
AuthenticationNo authentication — leave as None. The catalog is free to browse; a handful of paid actions ask for an API key inline the first time you use them.

If you're prompted with a warning about connecting to an unverified/third-party server, that's expected for any custom connector added this way — confirm to continue.

5

Save and enable it in your chat

Save the connector. Then, in a chat, open the + (or tools) menu and turn on OpenWidgets for that conversation — some ChatGPT versions enable a newly created connector automatically.

6

Try it out

Ask ChatGPT for a widget directly, for example:

Open the calculator

ChatGPT will search the OpenWidgets catalog and render the matching widget inline.

Not working?

Double-check the URL is exactly https://www.openwidgets.in/mcp (including /mcp), that Developer mode is still on, and that the connector is toggled on for the conversation you're testing in. For anything else, see the support page.
